about

‘End of Known’ is the second single from third album ‘A Sinkless Shore’. It reflects on COVID-19 as a healing process of social-ecological trauma, bringing the human species to a point of “renegotiation”. The song asks what is necessary in our response? What greater understandings are essential parts to our recovery? Is there a bed of values that bring us together during these uncertain times? And what part do you, I, the individual play in transition and collective renewal?

lyrics

Death I am familiar with
love is like a fleeting glance
I register peaceful aliveness mysterious in its grace
Bodies still and quiet
truth I’d like to ally yes
but there’s awareness of those seeking guidance
assurance your embrace

And we begin to tell
that each due moment we must face
Can we pass through the eye of the needle till
we need not doubt nor question faith?
And even in death
we come to terms with making peace
Will we recognise this call to heal?
Do we listen to love’s pleas?

Witnessing a closeness
born out of the essential kind
we’re hurled into the dawn of becoming
the age of belonging
what it means to be alive
Practiced looking at the past
things uncertain do not last
And stories too many stories between our pockets and our mask

And the rain seeps down
in our big storehouse by the sun
And the insights that we all knew
that bodies undivided cells are one

Under threat
webs unravel
ravaged hearts
plights of peril
a rhythm cries
\
Brush with death
sensing feeling
can’t detect
living breathing
a nature sighs

And we pray that the people reconcile
unwell baggage tear us out
of this messy messy marriage so we each play our parts
And that which means the end is a split split second
a paradox a piece of heaven and everything and all there is the clarity that we all need to stay alive

And there’s something I just can’t put my finger onto
how we wrestle with ourselves mmmm….
in this crazy weird inexplicable realm
where illness is our sign to health

We’ve come into a timeless place
once disembodied dangerous pace
a simple response giving us meaning
magic abandon in our hands
The train awaits us, will we go?
in our standstill still here although!
the backbone of the machine
is exhaling
gasping wailing
quiet please
we’re still in process
we’re still in process
we’re still in
