about

'Caught' is the first single from soon to come third album ‘A Sinkless Shore’. It is a call for non-indigenous Australians to come into closer relationship with first peoples. And recognise de-colonisation as inseparable from healing of self, culture, and environment. The song aims to stir a sense of urgency and social-ecological responsibility. To confront the truth of Australia's history, make amends, and commit to learning from indigenous elders and leaders.

lyrics

How do I listen
forgetting remembering
connect all the dots
to which I came.
Powder my make up
now working for freedom
to bring about change
but liberate who again?
Coming full circle
the ending of separate
all sacred in fragments
and higher realms.
Between all the people
all straddled in struggling
in unwanted difference
in heaven and hells.

Born in a displaced room
the violence a bystander too
what's done is done
all said the silenced.
The trauma is in our shoes
our stories will handle our blues
the time is now to make our choices.

Stay out of business
and work at exploiting
a runaway past
all misconstrued.
That's how we grow up
with blue vans a circling
our grief on the pavement
no longer viewed.
Where are our virtues?
in messed up investments
in media stories that make a scene.
The ambos come later
to keep us all searching
for calmness completeness humanities dream.

Here we have come to carry the weight
for generations to come before its too late
but do we honour the land that carries our shoes?
or the elders who sang won't bury their dues.
